Dr. Rohit Kumar is a practicing Anesthesiologist at Trillium Health Partners (THP) in Mississauga, Ontario. He is married to Dr. Meera Luthra, an Endocrinologist and the Endocrinology Program Director at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
He completed his Bachelor of Science and Medical Degrees at Dalhousie University in his hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia. He then completed his Anesthesia residency training at the University of Toronto.
At THP, Dr. Kumar has taken an active role in educating medical students and residents. Between 2009 and 2017 he was the Physician Lead in the Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic and continues to be a member of the Acute Pain Service. In 2014 Dr. Kumar was presented the Trillium Health Partners Better Together Physician Award for demonstrating leadership in advancing collaborative practice.
Outside of clinical work Dr. Kumar is an active advocate for physicians and patients. In 2020 he completed a four year term on the Professional (Medical) Staff Executive which represents the interests of over 1300 Professional Staff to the Hospital and Board of Directors. During his tenure, he sat on the Medical Advisory, Finance and Audit, Fiscal Advisory and Credentialing Committees. In the final two and a half years, he was a member of the Board of Directors at THP.
He is the current Vice-Chair of Ontario's Anesthesiologists, President of the Mississauga Medical Society and a District 5 Delegate. To further his interests in advocacy has taken several courses through the Physician Learning Institute and in March 2018 received the Physician Learning Institute Certificate. He has also participated Health Care Advocate Workshops offered by the Ontario Medical Association. Armed with this experience, he has formed relationships with provincial and federal politicians from various parties to advocate on healthcare issues and concerns. He also has an active social media presence.
Outside of medicine, he is an avid reader and likes to golf. He enjoys cooking, socializing and sampling diverse cuisines.
More recently, he has taken several courses with the Canadian Board of Aesthetic Medicine and is certified in Basic and Advanced Neurotoxin (Botox) and Dermal Fillers, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, Mesotherapy, Microneedling, Energy Based Devices (EBD) and LASER therapy, Sclerotherapy and Cosmetic Dermatology.
