Dr. Rohit Kumar is an Anesthesiologist at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga, Ontario. He earned his Medical Degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and completed his Anesthesia Residency training at the University of Toronto. Dr. Kumar is a certified member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Prior to attending medical school, he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at Dalhousie University.
In 2009, Trillium became affiliated with the University of Toronto and since then Dr. Kumar has held the rank of Lecturer and has taken an active role in teaching medical students and residents in the operating room. Between 2011 and 2017 he was the Physician Lead in the Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic and continues to be a member of the Acute Pain Service.
In 2014 Dr. Kumar was presented the Trillium Health Partners Better Together Physician Award for demonstrating leadership in advancing collaborative practice. To further his interests in patient advocacy he participated in the Health Care Advocate Workshop offered by the Ontario Medical Association in 2015 and again in 2017.
Outside of clinical work Dr. Kumar is involved in several administrative roles:
In July of 2016 Dr. Kumar joined the Trillium Health Partners Professional Staff Association Executive which represents the interests of over 1300 Professional Staff. He is currently President and has an ex-officio seat on the Trillium Health Partners Board of Directors.
He is also an active member of the Ontario Medical Association and has been a District 5 Delegate since 2017. In January 2017 he joined Ontario's Anesthesiologists as a member at large and in February 2019 became Vice-Chair of the section. With Ontario's Anesthesiologist's he is a member of the "Beyond the Mask" campaign which is working to extend the Anesthesiologist's role beyond the operating room and was a member of an Advisory Group in development of the Choosing Wisely Implementation Guide to help other Anesthesia departments decrease unnecessary preoperative testing.
