Rohit Kumar OMA

Thank you for considering my nomination to represent you once again as a District 5 delegate. The last year brought forth key first steps that will lead to a stronger and more representative OMA and I look forward to continuing to advocate on your behalf.

Briefly, I am an Anesthesiologist at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga. Currently, I am on the Executive of the Professional Staff Association and past site lead for our Pre-Op Assessment Clinic. In 2014, I received the THP Better Together Physician Award for demonstrating leadership in advancing collaborative practice. I have also been on the OMA Audit Committee for the past year.

I have a strong commitment to represent your interests well. I am a vocal advocate promoting physician interests within the OMA and with the government. I am active on social media including Twitter, Facebook and via my blog. My efforts have also included writing letters to and meeting with politicians to ensure they know our perspective. I have submitted letters to the editor, which can be accessed from my website. I have also attended healthcare advocacy training sessions with the OMA.

Collectively, council has brought considerable change to the OMA including a new governance structure. In depth board and corporate reviews have taken place with changes underway to represent our interests better. This is just the beginning and there is much work to be done. We must keep the pressure on to continue to reform our association, to ensure a fair contract, and to deal with provincial and federal actions towards doctors.

I would like your support to continue to work with other delegates to help transform and build an OMA that better represents physicians’ interests. I firmly believe that the OMA can do a better job and that we need to continue to push the OMA to a higher standard. I am going to continue to advocate for:

  • An OMA that represents physicians’ interests first
  • A strong and bold presence with more aggressive, tactful representation
  • An OMA that can respond quickly to a rapidly changing environment
  • Making OMA fees voluntary. There should be enough incentive via quality products and services to ensure payment.
  • Continued transparent and consistent communication

The process of reform is in the early stages. It is important to have continued strong representation. Let’s continue to build a reputation that we can be proud of. Let’s stand strong and united. Your voice matters, so please vote by clicking here.
